India registers 29,429 COVID cases

Indian states are back under a strict lockdown to limit the spread of coronavirus infections, which started surging soon after lockdown restrictions were eased. But lockdowns are back again in some high-risk cities and towns where cases are rising sharply. Bengaluru, India’s tech hub, is back under a strict lockdown for a week — a move that is aimed at slowing down the spread of the infectious disease. Kalaburagi district in Karnataka has also announced a complete lockdown for a week. Like in the first phase of the lockdown, only essential services will be allowed. Bihar has also announced a complete lockdown across the state from July 16 till the end of the month. In West Bengal, the total lockdown has been extended in containment zones till July 19. Pune, an industrial city, also began a 10-day lockdown on Monday.

India has so far recorded over 9 lakh coronavirus cases and 23,727 deaths.
