Government\’s assurance of compliance with IMF review mission

Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar met the IMF Review Mission headed by Nathan Porter, Chief of IMF Mission in the Finance Division, in which the finance minister assured that reforms are being brought in the power sector and gas sector. A high-level committee has been constituted to devise mechanisms to deal with the risk of revolving credit.

 

According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Finance, on this occasion, IMF Resident Representative Esther Perez Ruiz, Minister of State for Finance and Revenue Dr. Ayesha Ghos Pasha, SAPM for Finance Tariq Bajwa, SAPM on Revenue Tariq Mehmood Pasha. Governor State Bank Jameel Ahmed, Finance Secretary, Chairman FBR, IMF delegation members, and senior officers of the Finance Division attended.

The meeting discussed in detail the economic and fiscal policies and reform agenda to meet the 9th review under the Extended Fund Facility. Expressed friendly relations.

He apprised the mission of the financial and economic reforms and steps taken by the government in various sectors including the reduction of the financial gap, stabilization of the exchange rate, and steps taken in the energy sector to improve the economy. The finance minister thanked the Managing Director of the IMF for continuing the dialogue.

The finance minister said that as finance minister he has successfully completed the IMF program in the past. He assured me that the government is committed to completing the current program as well. Ishaq Dar extended all his support to the mission and pledged to work together to reach an agreement to complete the 9th review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF).

Mr. Nathan Porter, Mission Chief of the IMF expressed confidence on the occasion that the government will fulfill the IMF\’s requirements for completion of the 9th review and hoped that Pakistan would continue its progress on reforms in various sectors. The IMF will complete the program in an efficient and timely manner. He said that IMF and Pakistan will work together on financial reforms.
