ISLAMABAD: Twelve Pakistanis have been identified among the survivors of the boat that sank off the coast of Greece.
Spokesperson of the Foreign Office says that at present we are unable to confirm the number and identity of Pakistani citizens among the dead. Pakistani Mission in Greece headed by Ambassador Amir Aftab is in touch with the local authorities.
The spokesperson said that the local authorities are in contact to identify the deceased Pakistani citizens and provide assistance to their families. Our mission is also in contact with the Greek authorities in the process of identifying the 78 recovered bodies. This process of identification will be done through DNA matching with immediate family members (parents and children only).

Families of potential passengers on board the ill-fated boat are requested to contact our mission in Greece on 24/7 helpline numbers for verification purposes, Naho said. Families share DNA reports from certified laboratories and passenger identification documents at [email protected].
On the other hand, Commissioner Mirpur Chaudhry Shaukat Ali has said that around fifty youths from different areas of Kotli are involved in the Yunan boat accident, the process of identifying the dead bodies is going on and they are in touch with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Government of Pakistan.

He said that they are in contact with the affected families, yet the families do not have any information about their children, the young people who were affected by the accident went abroad from their homes three to four months ago, the young people go to Libya on legal visas from Pakistan and From there they go to Europe by taking illegal means.
Meanwhile, three friends from Gujranwala’s Kashmir Colony are also among those who died in the accident. Amjad, Jalal and Habib had gone to Libya eight months ago and the three families are overwhelmed by the news of the boat accident.
Amjad Baig’s brother said that the three friends had left for Italy on June 9. Amjad had requested prayers from his mother on the last call.
Apart from this, the video of the sinking boat also came out. A rider made the video and sent it to a friend who posted it on social media. Several hundred people were on board the boat.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly meeting was held in which Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali, a member of Jamaat-e-Islami, objected and said that 310 Pakistanis drowned in the sea while going from Libya to Greece. Doing?, the incident should be investigated.
Speaker National Assembly took notice of the incident and sought a report from the Ministry of Interior.
It should be noted that the United Nations says that 500 people are missing in this accident.
